Naima On Songwriting

It is so funny now to look back at my journal entry below from October 25th, 2013. Songwriting has become a part of the fabric of my being and so has Nashville. Over the past two years I have come to know Nashville and the phenomenal songwriting community even more and loved it so much I now call it my home. I look back and remember how excited I was to shake the hand of Tim Nichols and now I am so proud to have written a song with him on my EP, I can call him my co-writer and more importantly a friend. I can’t wait to see what the next two years have in store for me….as of right now, I am still blessed and truly #winning.

Journal Entry October 25th, 2013 – This morning I woke up reflecting on the last two weeks of my life. I attended the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) Awards where I was in the room with a multitude of brilliantly talented songwriters responsible for songs I GUARANTEE you know and we have all come to love as they topped the charts. I watched Taylor Swift make history as she received her 6th Songwriter of the Year Award, gave standing ovations as Randy Owen, Jeffrey Steele, Layng Martine Jr. and Will Jennings were inducted into the Nashville Songwriters hall of fame and shook the hand of Tim Nichols who wrote one of my favorite songs (“Live Like You’re Dying”). Only to be followed up by attending a writers round with Nathan Chapman, Shane McAnally, Greg Bates and Mark Nesler (pure songwriting awesomeness) to benefit the Oasis Center and shake the hand of Mark Sanders yet ANOTHER man who wrote ANOTHER one of my favorite songs (“I Hope You Dance”). If you can’t tell, songwriting has become where my heart is, then now you know. There is nothing like the Nashville songwriting community and I am blessed to have become a part of it.
